Battle For Middle-Earth Evil Campaign Map 21, Act 17 - Harlond

The map starts at a citadel in the north west. A few seconds after you start the 10 minute counter will start for the arrival of Gondor.

There's a lot of mountainous terrain on this map with the first camp being completely locked in by a mountain range running from the middle north edge running south & another from the middle west edge running east. Two Warg Lairs lie between the ends of these 2 mountain ranges. Resources are in dire need if I want to prepare for the Gondor reinforcements.

A few battalions of Rangers try to attack but with no armour they have no chance. To the south there were 4 Trebuchets but managed to destroy them with the Wargs without losing anyone.

Built a small defensive camp in the centre & sent Wargs south east to build a medium camp.

Suddenly came across the Gondor camp with the gates open so I saved the game & tried to rush in & see what happens.

Well luck was on my side it seems. I managed to destroy the camp with minimal losses & more than 2 minutes to go.

Suddenly the battle was over but no total victory but a time bonus of 920. Problem is that the one objective I needed to do was destroy the Gondor reinforcements. I saved the game at the next map of Emyn Arnen & went back to the last save to see if I could have handled it better. Every map I've played so far I've had total victory & the only way to get that is by completing all the objectives. I also have a personal objective of ensuring that I build on all the available plots, collect all treasure etc. & pretty much get everything I can from a map & end with a fully regenerated over command point limit as possible.

With all the available plots built on I sent all my troops to the harbour side & set my Pikes on defence. I can't remember where the reinforcement arrive from so hopefully the buildings will provide some protection. One more minute to wait & I've still got my 710/600 command points.

They finally arrive from the north east near my medium camp. They've got a long way to reach the Gondor camp so I sent off the Pikes followed by everyone else to take out the horses.

The Wargs were taking damage to quickly so sent them back & advanced with Saruman & all the Uruks. I blocked the passage between the mountain ranges & after a prolonged battle the reinforcements were all destroyed.

With the reinforcements destroyed my command points were on 597 so sent everyone back to the centre defensive camp to regenerate & rebuilt any structures destroyed in the north east. Saved & waited to regenerate as best I could & using the Palantir I could see the gate was open. Fortunately I hadn't attracted their attention yet & although the longer I waited the more defences Gondor had built I wanted to ensure I had at least a full complement of Crossbows. There were no Stables in the camp so no real need for Pikes now but plenty of towers around the walls. My command points seem to have topped out at 713 with not all combos fully regenerated. The gates were still open so made a dash for it.

Meanwhile the Elves arrive in an unfortunate place for them.

I destroyed the camp soon after but again the objective of destroying the Gondor reinforcements wasn't achieved for some reason. It turns out that there was a battalion of tower guards stuck on the edge of the map where they arrived. I went back the last save again & sent Saruman & with a precise ball of flame they were no more & Saruman was a short time away from level 10. This time as soon as a command point of 713 was reached I sent Pikes to the gates first followed by the Crossbows & then Wargs with Saruman somewhere within. His 2 blast weapons are good for a battalion or 2. This time I ended the battle with over 680 command points instead of the 500 or so last time. I also ended with Saruman on level 10

Once again I seem to have kept all my troops alive with a few of them gaining more experience & Saruman finally on level 10. I could head for Minas Tirith now but with a resource multiplier of only 2 I would prefer to get all the battles out of the way & go into the final battle with a multiplier of around 3.5. With these 2 Power points I now had enough to buy the Balrog. There were still 2 other powers I could have bought but the Balrog is by far the most useful. If I do all the other maps I'll have enough points for all the powers eventually anyway. Time to take Lurtz with a few battalions of Wargs & Pike - Archer - Uruk combos to West Emnet for +50 Command & +10% Resources. The command points are of no use of course but the resources will help. I'll sweep towards Minas Tirith & conquer any other outlying lands such as Mirkwood before meeting Saruman at Minas Tirith for the big battle.
