On 22nd July 1984 Horace Head caught a bus into town & set off to see his brother George in West Lee. He collapsed & died while walking across Canton Bridge. He was 76 years old & it was the sort of thing Horace would do- the likeable old rogue. He had built the Sunshine Home for Blind Babies in Southerndown in the 1950s which was opened by Princess Margaret, but it had made him bankrupt. He had married twice but had no children.
