On 13th July 1902 Harry Head’s father, George Head, died at the age of 51 years. Harry disposed of the two butchers shops he had inherited from his father in Eastbourne, moved first to Worthing then Portsmouth & by 1914 was living with his family in London.
Emma Stevens was born in 1839 in Bognor. She married George Head.

On 25th May 1915 Sidney Wilson (uncle to Beatrice Snook, later Toogood) was reported wounded & missing whilst serving in the 1st Welch Regiment in France. John Arthur Wharton 1 was born on 25 Apr 1907. He died on 17 Jan 1995. He married Carol Mary Louise Evans on 29 Mar 1942 in Eglwysilan Church. John was employed as Publican.

In 1940 With the end of the so-called ‘Phoney War’, an influx of technicians arrived at the Nantgarw aero engine plant. One of them, a young man named John Wharton, came from Lichfield in the Midlands. He liked a pint of Guinness or two, & began to court the landlord’s daughter at the Cross Keys Hotel.On 17th january 1995 John Wharton, publican, fly fisherman, model-maker & part time raconteur, died at the age of 88 years. His wife Carol, not in the best of health herself, having had numerous problems including having a replacement hip fitted, struggled on alone for another three years.
Carol Mary Louise Evans [Parents] 1 was born on 22 Dec 1917. She died on 1 Mar 1998 in Hendre Nursing Home, Llandaff, Glamorganshire, Wales, UK. She married John Arthur Wharton on 29 Mar 1942 in Eglwysilan Church.

On 22nd December 1917 After a gap of ten years, Sid & Clara Evans’ last child, Carol Mary Louise was born. A vivacious & happy girl, Carol later married John Wharton & stayed in the pub trade, taking over the licence from her father when he finally retired.On 1st March 1998 Carol Evans, so named because she was born so close to Christmas, died on St. David’s Day at the Hendre Nursing Home in Llandaff. She had been diagnosed suffering from cancer.
Ivy Claire Annie Edith Evans [Parents] 1 was born on 10 Jan 1902. She died on 12 Jun 1966 in Stourbridge, England, UK. She married Fred Jackson.

On 10th January 1902 Ivy Claire Annie Edith Evans was born to Cardiff publicans Sid & Clara Evans. She grew up to marry Cliff Wood, a merchant seaman who would later join the ‘family trade’ & become a publican.In 1926 Ivy, the Evans family’s eldest child, was the first to marry & leave home. As licencees, she & Cliff Wood kept the Four Elms in Newport Road, The Royal Hotel in Bewdley & the Gate Hangs Well in Stourbridge. Ivy had one son, Ivan, who joined the Royal Navy only to die of a brain haemorrhage at the age of 23, whilst serving aboard a submarine. She was already a widow herself by then, and Ivy later married Fred Jackson. She died in Stourbridge in 1966 at the age of 64.
Sidney John Vivian Leonard Evans [Parents] 1 was born on 20 May 1903. He died on 27 Dec 1977. He married Mary Viney in 1927 in Llandaff Cathedral. Sidney was employed as Policeman & Teacher.

On 20th May 1903 Ivy Evans’ brother, Sidney John Vivian Leonard, called Len, was born. He would later become an accomplished sportsman & enjoy a varied career as a policeman, international footballer, soldier & teacher.In 1927 Len married Mary Viney in Llandaff Cathedral. A Glamorgan policeman for 8 years, Len went on to be an International Footballer, winning 26 caps for Wales, & later a PE teacher in Kent following army service during the second world war when he reached the rank of major. He died in Muddiford near Christchurch at the age of 74.
Mary Viney 1 was born on 17 Dec 1903. She died on 12 Jan 1977. She married Sidney John Vivian Leonard Evans in 1927 in Llandaff Cathedral. Mary was employed as Teacher.

On 26th April 1991 The last remaining Head of his generation Sidney Herbert Head, veteran of the Western Front, died. His wife, May, had predeceased him in 1983. One of life’s thorough gentlemen.
May Wilson 1 was born on 15 Dec 1899. She died on 4 Mar 1983. She married Sidney Herbert Head in 1934.
